KAG is a not-for-profit charity that helps vulnerable people have a say in decisions that affect them and how they live their lives. We do this by providing independent advocacy support at no direct cost to individuals. Advocacy is provided by our specialist employed staff and trained volunteers.
Everything we do is governed by our core beliefs of social justice, self-determination and commitment to the individual. We listen to our clients, understand their needs, ensure they are aware of their rights and provide relevant information. Then, we support them in speaking up for themselves or, where this is not possible, we speak for them.

Helen Clarke was instrumental in establishing Kingston Advocacy Group (KAG) in 1988, while she was a Mental Health Social Worker at Long Grove Hospital in Surrey. Concern for institutionalised individuals being placed back in the community under the then new Care in the Community legislation inspired her to “want to make a difference”. Helen has led KAG to grow and develop into the broad based organisation it is today. Helen has a Masters Degree in Business Administration and she was honoured with an MBE in 2011 for her work in mental health.
RF 'Jim' Green became Chair of KAG in 2016, after years as member of the Management Committee. He was a volunteer Citizen Advocate and Appropriate Adult for the many years. Jim brings much expereince to the board and for two years supported KAG to reach the final of the Dragon Boat races.
